Can you lend some advice for a knockdown shot?

    Hi Brian,

The knockdown shot is a great tool to have in your bag. This shot is great during windy days and can prevent the ball from ballooning up into the wind. Also once you have perfected it it can be easier to control!

There are a few basic steps in hitting and perfecting a knockdown swing. First set up to the ball normally and position the ball back in your stance. Experiment on the range to find the best position for you as it’s all about feel. Your club selection here is critical…judge the wind properly as most of time you will require an extra club. Your next step will be to grip down on the club which will encourage a lower ball flight and promote more control.

This shot is all about the impact position. Swing smoothly through the shot. Through impact make sure your left wrist is flat and that the club face is not passing the hands. Choking down and swinging at 3/4 speed will launch the ball on a lower trajectory.

Get out on the range and have fun with this shot!!

Early season rounds can be frustrating and challenging! The best advice I can provide to you is come prepared for battle. There is no worse feeling then being uncomfortable while swinging. Extra layers will keep you warm and dry. Pack extra socks and maybe a shoe or two.

When a golf course is wet…it plays longer…sometimes significantly. Just about all shots will roll less after landing! Off the tee you won’t be a long in soggy conditions. In this case your club selection will be crucial Brian! Account for less roll on and around the greens. This will give you an opportunity to attack pins during your approach as well.

Another tip while playing early in the year is to adjust your course management. Understand that every swing won’t be perfect and you won’t get the result that your always looking for. Placing your ball in comfortable yardages will help you coming into the soggy greens.

Pack some smiles because it won’t always be about the score during these early rounds!

I hope this helps Brian and please feel free to ask more! Let me know how it goes!

    Adam,

Wow ! I left my post last night and didn’t think you would respond so quickly. I am playing my first round of golf of the year today and will follow your advice. Extra layers are packed, 2 pairs os shoes and enough smiles to go around :) Also will document the technical tips but try my best to keep it about feel when hitting the low shots. Thanks again, really appreciate the quick help. I’m sure I’ll have more questions at a later date.
