Jon’s help with the understanding of what to do and why to do it helped my game immensely. For the first time ever, I actually get it !

News to everyone: I just wanted to pass on some great news. 2 of the juniors i have had the pleasure of working with have “made some noise” on the K-Rock Junior tour. http://www.juniorgolfers.ca/ Check out their results. The junior ballers are : Adam Searle and Elliot Fledderus. Their running mate Adam Parker is coming off a broken collar bone and has been busy rehabilatating and spending time with family but is someone to watch out for next year. Great Job guys !
Just wondering, what should a golfer be thinking about and paying attention to during a practice round?
Elliott,
Great question ! You should pay attention to the following:
Green Speeds
Safe Zones
Elevation Change
Playability & Firmness of land
Game-Plan aggresive/defensive/club selection
Prodominant wind cycles
Basically Elliott, all of the above and anything else that each specific course may throw at you. More than anything, you don’t want to be surprised in any way shape or form when you play your competitive round. Ask the pro shop staff which tees you will be playing off of as well. The more similar you make your practice round to your competitive round the better. I hope this helps !
Thanks Steve, I will definitely keep that in mind for next time.
I’ve noticed that a lot of PGA tour players use a line on their golf ball to line up their putts. Would you recommend this method to an amateur?
Players use this as an alignment aid. I recomend this to some of my students. If my student has issues with alignment or has an untrained eye I may use this technique to help him or her. When I say an untrained eye I mean they get a different read when they actually stand over the put than they do when they are directly behind the ball. This causes a non-committed stroke sometimes which always leads to a missed put. As a general rule if you are going to implement this into your game, get a read, aim the ball/”line” at your desired line, sell out to that line and concentrate on your distance control. Great question Elliott!
I’ve been visiting your blog for a little while now and wanted to comment on how much I enjoy your work.
I hope you keep posting on this subject.
I’ve also been visiting this site for the last couple weeks and enjoy it very much. I was hoping I could request one of the tip of the week videos to be on chipping or pitching and if that’s not an option I would like to hear what your thoughts are on how to set up for a chip or pitch. Thanks!
Tim, I will do my best to find a Pro Impact Golf Tip of the week to suit your needs. If not I will for sure shoot you my thoughts the set up for chipping/pitching. Thanks for your comments.
I’m wishing everyone a very merry Christmas and safe holiday season !
I just recently visited the Loyalist Sports Dome located on the campus of Loyalist College in Bellevile. I was simply blown away by the facility. The amazing options you have is out of this world and the prices are seriously reasonable. I suggest everyone to go and check it out and see for yourself. A very unintimitating sports complex. I am now available upon request for instruction at the Loyalist Sports Dome. Please call or email to book a lesson. Thanks.
Hi Steve,
I am presently considering takng the courses offered by CGTF. As a level 111 USGTF professional do you think this organization is a good way for me to learn how to teach golf?
I think it’s a selfish act on Woods’ behalf to come back to the game of golf at the Masters. The most exclusive golf tournament in the history of the game will be turned into a media circus and it will be controlled caos at best. Shame on him in another botched decision in his roller coaster ride through hell. I poory pity the gentlemen that get paired with Tiger, gone by the way side are their chances. It would be a total shock to see anyone who gets paired with Woods over the first two days compete on the weekend.
Side note: Why wouldn’t Tiger come back at The Tavistock Cup? The even needs the publicity and it is usually a smaller controlled crowd there? The security had already been hightened there. What a better way to come back to the game playing with a friend like Mark O’Meara or Chuck Three Sticks?
Bad on Tiger and bad on his newly appointed image consultant… selfish as the wait was long.
Prediction: Ian Poulter continues his break through year. Stricker and Graeme McDowell contend as well. Leaderboard once again filled with international talent.
Fun fact….
Ernie Els’ caddie for The Masters is none other than former Belleville Bull, Pittsburgh Penguin, Vancouver Canuck and Celebrity Golf Tour player…Dan Quinn.

I fancy Westwood over Poulter. I think Lee is ready to do it.
Check out U.S. Open local qualifier results. Some interesting names, check it out.

Make a tight turn, get to lead side as first move on downswing.
Glad to see that a player or several players that don’t hit it over 275 can compete on tour. What a great tourney at colonial, the tour needs more of these. Who’s your fav. short knocker? I personally like Freddy Jacobson.
